I had the pleasure of reading an advance copy of “Dandelion Wishes” and have told several friends about it, ahead of its publication. The book is the story of Coral Maxwell King, a girl in Melbourne during WWII who was separated from her siblings after her father enlisted, and the tale of her growth into adulthood and being shifted from foster homes to group homes and back again.

A book that will make you laugh and cry, Coral’s story is one of triumph and tragedy. Clearly, Coral was a resilient woman and I felt truly honoured to read her story. I can highly recommend it to others – it’s a terrific Australian story.

This beautiful and challenging story is told with grace, love and compassion. Coral’s story is both sad and hope-filled. Her resilience and strength glimmers in every snippet of her story.

The author has done a beautiful job weaving the historical detail into a canvas on which Coral’s story is respectfully and carefully painted. 1940s Melbourne springs to life as Coral makes her way through the maze of the state’s child protection system.

No exaggeration to say Coral and her life’s path stayed with me for days afterwards. Loved it.
